Apart from the engine and the two or four-wheel-drive combination is selected, the EPA estimated fuel economy is almost identical across the Sorento line. A model of two-wheel-drive with a 3.3-liter V6 should return 16 mpg city / 22 mpg highway and 18 mpg in combined driving, while the 3.8-liter V6 rated at 15/21/17 mpg. Choosing for the 4WD version mileage drops about 1 mpg.
safety

In government crash testing, the Kia Sorento awarded the highest possible score of five out of five stars for frontal and side impact protection for all occupants. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the highest rating of the Sorento "Good" for frontal-offset crashworthiness, but in the side impact test, the IIHS Sorento get the worst rating possible "Poor."
Interior Design and Special Features
Despite the modest prices, Kia Sorento 2009 showed solid build quality with decent interior materials. The front seats are comfortable and controls are fairly simple, but the look and design of the interior falls a little behind the times. Rear bench wide enough to accommodate three adults, but higher passenger can find less legroom. The versatile 60/40 split folding rear seats flat for about 66 cubic feet of cargo space, which is slightly less than what is offered by competitors Crossover above.
driving Impressions
With either a V6 under the hood, the 2009 Kia Sorento has plenty of power for both city traffic and highway cruising fast. The suspension provides a pleasant ride and handling are adequate in smooth pavement, but when the roads get rough, the trip will be bouncy, with many bumps are transmitted directly to the cabin. Brake Sorento which may also be a concern; in the previous test, we saw a significant brake fade after just two panic stops from 60 mph. Drivers who plan for every crossing mountain roads should keep this in mind.
The Sorento steering feel, however, is satisfactory and there is minimal body roll when cornering. Thanks to the low-range transfer case and home-based Sorento trucks, off-road excursions can be handled with relative ease, but the ability Sorento still falls short of a vehicle owned by a more competent as Xterra and FJ Cruiser.
